The much-awaited US Open in San Francisco has temporarily taken a backseat to Matt Cain’s perfect game last night, as evidenced by the front page of today’s San Francisco Chronicle:

That being said, it still hasn’t stopped many US Open shoppers today — in fact, tickets for these next few days have been among the top-searched events on StubHub and already several hundred have been purchased in the last few hours. The demand for tickets is higher than last year at Congressional Country Club, and even more so than the year prior at Pebble Beach. Check out how pricing (average price paid per ticket) for each day has compared over the last two years:
Olympic Club
- Day 1: $130
- Day 2: $189
- Day 3: $194
- Day 4: $188
Congressional Country Club
- Day 1: $92
- Day 2: $131
- Day 3: $157
- Day 4: $142
Pebble Beach
- Day 1: $73
- Day 2: $97
- Day 3: $116
- Day 4: $113
All eyes are on Phil, Tiger, and Bubba, so we’ll see how this all unfolds. I would expect prices for tomorrow and Saturday to remain pretty flat, but we will likely see some fluctuation for Sunday depending on how Tiger and the gang do.
Big Three Battle: Part 2
Tonight LeBron/D-Wade/Bosh have some work to do to even up the series and bring the NBA Finals home with home court advantage. Surprisingly (or maybe not surprisingly), less than 2% of buyers on StubHub for Game 2 are from Florida. Here’s how it breaks down:
- 49% of buyers are locals from Oklahoma
- 17% are from Texas
- Kansas makes up 5%
- California, Missouri, and Arkansas each make up 3%
- The rest of the buyers are less than 3%
Fans have been paying anywhere from as low as $249 to Game 2 tonight, to as high as $7500 (Floor End 105). Just over 1300 tickets have been purchased.. maybe better said is that only 1300 fans have been willing to resell their tickets on StubHub. Some interesting perspective from Doug Hanks today at the Miami Herald, using our data from the regular season. Check it out HERE. Anyone want to weigh in?
