  1. Suddenly Hot Bruins Become Hot Ticket

Today’s guest blog comes courtesy of Shannon J. Barbara, public relations coordinator, while Joellen is out.

    Week Twelve

That didn’t take long! In their first week of being ranked No. 1 and No. 2 respectfully, the Kansas State Wildcats and Oregon Ducks both dropped pivotal games over the weekend, essentially putting the nail in their National Championship coffins. As a result, the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame sit atop the BCS rankings for the first time ever and make their long awaited return to No. 1 in the AP poll in nearly 20 years (last time was 1993). All that stands in their way is a trip to Los Angeles and a matchup with the suddenly vulnerable USC Trojans. And a week after getting upset in Tuscaloosa, it’s the Alabama Crimson Tide who reclaim their second life at a title. With Thanksgiving coming up, that means it’s time for multiple classic college rivalries, and those matchups highlight our StubHub Top 25 college football rankings.

For fans of the UCLA Bruins, the past decade has been marred by mediocre football and apathy. Tickets to the Rose Bowl to see the UCLA football team were easy to get and in high supply. However, it seems like the winds of change are swirling around Westwood. The team is 9-2 this year and just dispatched their chief rival, USC, in thrilling fashion last weekend. As a result, their game with the surprising Pac-12 North leading Stanford Cardinal is at the top of the StubHub Top 25 this week in searches. With many rivalry games coming up, it’s surprising to see this team take the top spot. Securing the second and third slots respectfully are the Ohio State Buckeyes and Michigan Wolverines.

Despite their postseason ban, don’t think Buckeye fans aren’t itching at the chance to finish their season undefeated in The Big Game against Michigan. They host the Wolverines on Saturday and fans of both teams are clamoring for tickets. New to the Top 5 are the Clemson Tigers. After losing early in the season to Florida State, they’ve rattled off seven straight wins and host in-state rival South Carolina this weekend. Georgia rounds out the Top 5, and thanks to losses by Kansas State and Oregon last weekend, the Bulldogs have a renewed sense of National Championship hopes and will look to keep the season on track when they take on arch-nemesis Georgia Tech.

  2. Wolverines Top Charts for Second Week in Row

    Week Eight

The national powers of the 2012 college football season are beginning to assert themselves. With Florida, Oregon, Kansas State and Notre Dame notching impressive victories over the weekend, StubHub has continued to see incredibly high fan interest for these upcoming games. This weekend features a few Top 10 matchups as well as a classic Southern rivalry brimming with added intensity.

After finally securing the Paul Bunyan Trophy from their rivals at Michigan State, the Michigan Wolverines once again top our charts with page views and overall demand. The Wolverines take on the Nebraska Cornhuskers this weekend and their primetime matchup is outpacing some of the other high-profile games this weekend. This is partially due to Michigan’s massive fan base and the tremendous traveling support the Cornhuskers receive on the road. Coming in second is another one of our partners, the USC Trojans, who will follow up a blowout win against the Colorado Buffaloes with a quick road trip to Tucson to take on the Wildcats. We suspect that many of the page views we’ve seen recently are due to fans looking ahead to the Trojans’ gigantic showdown with the AP’s No. 2 team, the Oregon Ducks. The Florida Gators come in at No. 3 on our list, after finishing off an impressive home win over South Carolina. The Gators will need to repeat that performance against arch-nemesis Georgia in the “World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party” this weekend. With the game taking place in Jacksonville, many Gators fans seem to be looking to make the quick trip up state. Last, and most predictably, the Oklahoma Sooners, who host the highly-ranked Fighting Irish of Notre Dame this Saturday, is getting a big look from fans. It’s a matchup that would garner national attention even without the stakes, but since both teams come in with a Top 10 BCS ranking, it’s grabbed the No. 4 spot on our scorecard!

  3. Florida State Chops Its Way to Top of the Charts

It was another exciting week in college football, with some teams coming back into the national spotlight, like the Seminoles and Fighting Irish. Fans are proving unpredictable as teams are bouncing up and down the list week to week. While most fans seem to rally around teams with wins, we have seen some surprises with teams dropping down the list despite scoring big victories.

If Saturday’s primetime matchup proved anything to the nation, it’s that the Florida State Seminoles are back! Once the dominant team of the late 1990s, early 2000s, the Seminoles have faded a bit from the National Championship scene. Last week’s thrashing of the Clemson Tigers not only put Florida State back in our collective consciousness, but it put them on top of the StubHub Top 25 for the first time this season.

Coming in second this week were the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, who leapfrogged several teams to go from 10th to 2nd. The Irish are another team that have revitalized their fanbase with their recent play and last week’s defeat of the Michigan Wolverines have brought the fans back to make their pilgrimage to visit Touchdown Jesus. The USC Trojans also bounced back into the Top 5 after their home date with Cal and showing USC’s further drawing power, Stanford, which finished 6th last week, dropped all the way to 23rd despite upsetting the Trojans!

  4. STUBHUB TOP 25: WEEK 3

Michigan And Ohio State Continue To Hold Off Stiff SEC Competition

This past week of college football saw some incredible upsets, most notably our hometown Stanford Cardinal taking down the USC Trojans for the fourth straight time. However, despite a topsy-turvy AP Poll, the StubHub Top 25 stayed relatively stable.

For the second week in a row, the Michigan Wolverines are the top team in the StubHub Top 25. Their upcoming game against the revitalized Notre Dame Fighting Irish is drawing a lot of interest from fans in the area. These rivals are already steeped in tradition and is normally a huge draw anyway, but with both programs coming in highly ranked, it’s garnering extra attention. Ohio State, despite playing their fourth home game in a row, maintains its hold on the second spot this week showing the tremendous support the Buckeyes get in the area, while the Florida State Seminoles climb up to No. 3. In its three games this year, Florida State has given up a grand total of three points, but face their first true test of the year as they welcome ACC-foes Clemson into town. Fans in Tallahassee are ready to host the Tigers and give them a warm Tomahawk welcome. Also, the Georgia Bulldogs are a new entrant to our Top 5 after several weeks of great victories. They’ve risen all the way from 12th on our list and play Vanderbilt this weekend between the hedges.
